The original King’s Field game never saw a release outside Japan. Japan - Publisher: From Software - December 1994 After that little bit of trivia let’s get started. If Armoured Core was invested in as much as Demon’s Souls has been, do you think the series would be even bigger than Dark Souls was? King’s Field itself was From Software’s first game and as a homage to it the Moonlight Sword/Blade has appeared in every single From Software game from Armored Core to Otogi. So let’s take a look back at the whole series and the various names and formats it’s been released on and to all the publishers out there I have, but one question. Until we get to Demon’s Souls on the PS3 where the series finally got a big push outside of Japan and we all know the results, helped by a few hardcore gamers importing the Asian release. Indeed, the King’s Field/Shadow Tower/Souls series has suffered pretty much the same fate as From Software’s Armored Core series with many titles not seeing a western release or released with no PR and marketing support. The most recent titles in the series going under the name of Dark Souls, a lot more of you have heard that name. The game/series lore is also carried across from title to title some times in large amounts other times by very subtle nods. You see From Software have been making Medieval fantasy games since they first started and while the series has undergone name and even IP changes the core gameplay remains.
However, if you like fantasy games, then you may well have played some of the more recent additions in the series. There is a high likelihood that unless you are an ardent From Software fan you have never heard of a game named King’s Field or even played it.
